Ok i have a single blue LED that i want to use as a light that turn on when i turn the switch on indicating that the thing the switch is controlling is on. Now can i just run a positive to one side of teh led and a negative to the otherside or will that kill the led... Please let me know what i need to do... Thanks

You need to add a resistor in series. The value depends on what are your LED's voltage and current requirements.

Take a look at this https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=81477&PN=2

you need to put a resistor on the LED 470 Ohm, not thats if the blue LED uses 3.5V and 20milliamps
