Ok I have no clue what I am doing here, I recently got some LED's to go above my pedals in my '02 Civic and they say they need to be plugged into a 12v power source, WTF? I am soo freaking lost, what can I hook them to in the car to pull 12volts to power the LED's? Please let me know and please make it idiot proof. Haha,. thanks.
By "plugged in" I would imagine it means you are going to use the cigarette lighter type plug that should be attached to the power wires with your led kit.
Unless you have some kind of car from the future...or some really really old car from the past..any and all recepticles in your car are a 12v power source.
If the led setup you have does not have this kind of plug I would highly reccomend you have someone with experience in auto electronics help you find a power source. It will require tapping into a wire in the car, fusing it properly and possible drilling for a ground.
Unless you feel competent enough to do that own your own...I would refrain.
You could potentially do some pretty serious damage if you don't have the know-how..proper tools/materials and a digital multimeter. Or you can just "shove" the positive wire into a fuse receptacle and wrap the ground wire around a bolt. But chances are you will have nothing but intermittent problems with the LED's cutting out at the very least, and a possible "smoke show" if you mess up.
Unfortunatly when dealing with electronics and tapping into your cars wiring...there is no magic "idiot proof" pill. It takes some knowledge in the field. To anyone with experience, this is a very basic hookup, about as basic as it gets..
