I have a 2006 Toyota RAV4 that I am trying to wire a scrolling LED license plate frame into. I need a 12V DC supply and a ground line. I was thinking the easiest way would be to tap into the license plate light, as this should give me power whenever the ignition is on. Any suggestions? Does anybody have a wiring diagram?

Thanks.

Grab your meter and poke some wires....all you need is 12v and ground....correct?

Make sure it's legal first....in the staes here there are huge issues with stuff like that.

Yeah. What makes this a bit more tricky is that the license plate is mounted on the rear door, so I have a limited number of wires to poke. I'm hoping to avoid having to run another wire that is live whenever the ignition is on. The license plate light is only on when the headlights or parking lights are on.

I'm not aware of any legal restrictions here. I'm in Ontario, Canada.

test the wire for the regular light and see how many volts you have if is less than 12 volts, yo have 2 choices:

grab the wire from the back lights or do a relay
