ok... i bought 2 sets of 6" neon lights... 2 lights in each pack... there's a box with jackets so that both lights can be pluged in at the same time and be on at the same time.. .. and to power it up there you plug it into your cig lighter.. so what i wanted to do is cut the cig. lighter and wire it up different way instead... and put it on a switch so it can be turned on and off in the back seat... , 1 way i did hook up 1 set was there''s a little light in my center console i tapped into that and from there it's on the switch where the headlights are so.. i think that's ok...?? but the back i wanna have a switch on and only place to get power is the back light but i cant put  a switch... any idea's..... it's 18 gage small wire 12V neon lights

as long as you're power source is going into the transformer box, you shouldn't need more than 1amp of power. the Cold cathodes use about 0.7 amps.

18 gauge is plenty.
