interior leds

I was at a car lot with a friend today and saw and Audi quattro with no dome light but it had lights under the seats to illuminate the floor when you get in.i would like to do this to my vehicle. i have a 2004 Accord. I have an idea of how to do it but dont know where i would tap into to act as a "remote" to activate the light. I have keyless entry and want the lights to come on with the dome light. please help. thanks

Just find out the trigger wire for the dome light and use that to trigger a relay and you're good to go.  Keep in mind the relay can be optional.

How would i find the trigger wire?

Look in a haynes manual at the wiring diagram...depending on how electronically inclined you are you could prolly just pop off a few things and run the wire from the dome light...or you could follow it to a closer location where you can splice in a new wire...there are a few ways you can find it.

Better yet if you can find the door jam button and pop that off to spice in a new wire for your project and just run the new wire to your desired location.

I am having a similar issue on a 1997 Honda Civic. I need the LEDs to come on when the doors open. The wire that comes down the pillar from the ceiling light is impossible to reach. Can someone tell me another easier to access place to tap in parallel to the ceiling light?

Will the door switches work as the positive supply? I thought about using the fuse but that wouldn't help seeing as it would be on the constant 12V line to the light (right? sorry a bit of a newbie).

There are two wires at the ceiling light, one constant 12V and one switched (seems to go to 0V when a door is opened). Any ideas would be great thanks!

Use a relay to switch the door signal to 12V+:

85: Door trigger wire
86: 12V+
30: 12V+
87: LEDs

When the door is opened it will charge to coil and switch 30 to 87 providing 12V for your lights. Good luck.

Dome Supervision      GREEN/ red       -       back of fuse box, lt. grn 5 pin plug

so using a spdt relay
85- dome supervision wire
87- fused 12v
87a- n/a
86- fused 12v
30- 12v output to lighting that will come on with the dome light

How is that different from what I said except that you switch 30 and 87 which makes no difference?

Thanks for the help, but I managed without relays. Turns out the door switches simply connect to ground when the door is open. I used an extra battery 12V connection on the fuse box front (Honda is nice that way) and connected the ground of the LEDs to the door switch in parallel to the existing wire, works great. I would have gone down the the relay path but:

The fusebox is an EFFORT to remove to reach back wires, involves unplugging/untangling everything and disconnecting driver/passenger airbags and connecting them to shorting plugs etc (detailed in Honda service manual on their website).
