i know that some speakers come with LEDs built into the speaker. unfortunatly(or fortunately) i dont own a set of those type of speakers. what i want to do is wire 4 LEDs to the positive and negative wire of the speaker connector mainly because i cannot get any wire from the inner door to the inside of the car otherwise i would wire it to an alternate source. how would i go about doing that? would i even need a resistor? or relay? or would i need a separate resistor for each LED? is the diagram below the best way to go?
series? IE digram below:
+speakerwire <resistor> +LED -LED +LED -LED +LED -LED +LED -LED -speakerwire

That wouldn't work. The sound signal going into the speaker is AC but you need a DC signal to power the LEDs, as they are polar components. Look for another source to power them.

Well you could purchase a controller which will switch the led's to the beat of the music. You can try Oznium.com they sell all sorts of led items and cold cathode lighting.

Jayem - LEDs will work with an AC source, they will however only turn on when the AC voltage is in the correct polarity for the "diode" to be turned on.
Thus, if you wire LEDs with your speaker, they will itermittenly turn on and off. If wired with the same polarity as your speaker, the LEDs will turn on when the speaker cone pushes out.
Patpjrick - see the thread about running additional wiring through a door molex and you will find that you can run your own wiring through the doors to control the LEDs.
