Hi everyone,
After reviewing the schematic, I have altered my blinker modules flash rate without the use of a power resistor.
Here is the original schematic. I have added the values in red of the components that are in the stock blinker for my '97 Cougar.

Here is the component I added in place of R1. It is a 500K Ohm variable resistor. Mine is a single turn I got out of an old TV. I will probably replace it with something I can mount with a knob sticking out of the plastic case.
