Do lights stillwork by using key, if so make sure you power your second ignition, Also some models have a third ignition wire that might need to be powered.

Is up to the installer to test all wires with a DMM whenever possible.

Check to see if you have a thin tan/white wire with your ignition wires. It needs to see ground during start when r/s.

The TAN/WHITE wire needs to we wired into a relay like this:

  • 86: Ground out when running
  • 87 : TAN/WHITE wire at ignition switch
  • 85 : Truck's starter wire
  • 30 : Ground
  • 87a : NOT USED

I also have a 96 fullsize Chevy and my DRL's don't work either. I also have a remote start system but my DRL's were not working before I had it installed.

I think mine went out due to using high wattage "Ultra White" Bulbs. One day they were working, the next day they weren't. I have tried replacing all related relays and checked fuses. Is your "green" indicator on in the dash when the truck is running? Mine is on, but no DRL's. I am down to trying to replace the DRL module. Does anyone know where it is located?

Thanks...

Had the same problem with a 96' Tahoe. Dealer looked into problem, turns out a bad diode was the culprit. Diode around $6.00, Labor $65.00. Would have been cheaper to get a relay and a few feet of wire. Priceless.
The relay box under the hood on the drivers side is where the diode is located if I remember correctly.

Just fixed mine this weekend. The culprit (at least in my situation) was the black (finned) box under the dash. It was mounted in a bracket bolted to the support bar right behind the plastic panel under the dash, just about even with the accelerator pedal. Through much searching I found it is some kind of voltage reducer that reduces the output to the DRL by 2 volts. It has two wires going to it (orange and yellow). I found one out of a wrecked truck at a salvage yard, installed it, and I now have DRL again.posted_image

I see that all of you have had the same problem that i have I have tried to find what's the problem with my Trucks DRL (its a 1997 Full size truck ) When I got at dealer i see the green light on the dashboard but no DRL then I checked and one day I got mad and took out the bulb of the drl on the dashboard tried to put it back on but now i don't see the drl light on my dashboard. I been wanting to take it to a dealer but im afraid i might have to pay $$$$. If any of you have any diagrams, pictures, that shows how to fixd it would be appriaciated.      Thanks
