My 1991 Miata is currently sporting el-cheapo Sylvania H6024 sealed beam halogens - original to the car as far as I know. I don't know the rated wattage, but they seem to draw about 3.1A each as measured on my Fluke 87V.
The lowest-output H4 bulbs available with an e-code reflector conversion are rated 60/55W, or a 4.6-5A draw if my memory of Ohm's law is correct (A=W/V?).
Should I expect any electrical overheating issues with my good-condition wiring? I'm not sure why I get such a low reading on the existing bulb, relative to the e-code bulb rating, and I can't tell if the extra total 3A of draw will make a difference. I'm hooking the meter up to the center lug on the back of the bulb.
I really don't want to upgrade the wiring, but 60/55 seems to be the lowest-draw H4 bulb available. Any advice?

60w high beam, 55w low, is standard. This is what the "stock" bulb's should be!

you shouldn't have to upgrade the wiring for that conversion, the only thing you should do is make sure they are perfectly adjusted when you install them. i've done a couple of those sealed to e code swaps and the only thing i notice is the beam pattern is a little different than stock.
