Lets not forget the obnoixously over played "Yeah" by usher and Lil Jon and a bunch of other guys. I still end up hearing that damn song every day. Also "You remind me" by Usher is a very good track. Kryptonite By 3 doors down, I am also a fan of the Eagles "Hotel California", and speaking of Califonia how about "California Love" by Tu Pac. Lets see what else, There is a song on Gob's "foot In Mouth Disease" disc, track 6, and there is a wicked Bass Drop about half way through the song, also On Blood Hound Gang's "Horay For Boobies" disc track 4 or 5, its a remake of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax song and just after the 2 minute mark or the 3 minute mark the boys from BHG have a discusion with Pac Man about how drugs are Bad and then when the song kicks back in the Bass is pretty damn crazy. I could go on but I wont. I definatly suggest you check out the Blood Hound Gang song if for no other reason than to hear Pac Man trying to deal Crack to the BHG :)

Rap:
Petey Pablo - Freek-A-Leek
Half Pint - Big Booty Ho's
Twist - Like A 24
Juvenile - Slow Motion

Techno:
Prodigy - Breathe remix (The Fat Mixes album)

Random (some are good bass songs, some are good songs with good bass)
John Mayer - Clarity (nice bass notes in the beginning. The're low, loud, and clear)
Saliva - Doperide (beginning again)
Pink Floyd - Money & Time (classics, what more can be said)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - MAPS

Edit:

Also

Dire Straits - Sultins of Swing

With many of the above, make shure your front stage is up to the challenge, because they arn't necessarly really loud bass, but if you have a sub & blast the song, the bass will sound cool as ****.  Gotta love balanced sound :)

You know, Im not a fan of country music in most cases, but some country has some great bass lines in them. There are some songs where the bass is very prenounced and really quite strong. Couldnt tell you any off the top of my head except for "Check Yes Or No" By George Strait. Like I said, its not my bag but for actuall good sounding specimins, its pretty hard to beat country music just because its so raw compared to Rap, Alternative and pop and what not. I havent heard a remix of "My baby cheated on me and my dog stole my truck" in quite some time :)

I bought a handful of new CD's for myself this weekend. They are all relatively bass heavy OR good songs for testing nice clean and balanced bass. Here are some quick reviews after at least one full listen each.

Arturo Sandoval - My Passion for the Piano
This one is my find of the weekend. Many of the jazz cd's I find today are overly processed and synthesised. This one reminds me of sitting in Blues Alley in Georgetown, sipping a gin & tonic, and being completely taken by the music and groove. Each of the five musicians just jams on his instrument and Arturo does a fantastic job on the piano; dancing that fine line between improvisation and moving each song's story along.

Ben Allison - Buzz
Another not-overly processed find, this one features the lead musician, Ben Allison, on the bass. Since the Bass is featured the engineering was obviously most centered on this instrument and the result is fantastic. Use this CD to help evaluate everything from your sub bass to mid bass to highs. This CD won't be fun if you have a one-note wonder sub bass system and poorly balanced midbass.

Medeski, Martin & Wood - End of the World Party
Think serious groove cd. This one is a little more processed, but is also bass heavy, featuring Medeski on keyboards, Martin on drums, and Wood on bass. Really a quite exciting cd and an excellent test to ensure that things don't get muddy when the pace is a little faster than the previous two cd's.

George Benson - Irreplaceable
This cd got a bit processed for me; too much like commercial R&B on a lot of the songs. Many of the songs felt like George wants some radio hits. Nice bass and some decent guitar grooves in parts, but probably my least favorite purchase of the weekend.

Jamie Cullum - Twentysomething
I've seen this dude on a couple of the late night shows and he really impressed me. The cover and title of the CD makes me think pop-junk, but this guy rocks. Liner notes confirm what listening instantly gives away - it was recored almost entirely live. It was also mixed almost entirely in the analog domain. The sound quality is excellent. The "live" excitement is excellent. Think back to Blues Alley again. He has a great mix of new songs and new interpretations of standards like "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "I Could Have Danced All Night."

Ok, I'd just like to clarify here for Raven. Country should have like, no bass. Atleast true country. Now if you are referring to country rock I can see, because that is some lame hybrid of the two that should have never been done. If a "true" country slips in a bass, it should be so incredibly subtle... If the song has enough bass to truly rumble(Assuming you don't have boosts or anything to help it along) then it is not country, it is hybrid and it should be shot, period. Ok I'm done. :) Sorry, just dislike the confusion between the two.

(I hate country, only 1 artist has ever gotten on my good side and that was because of lyrics, not anything else.)

gotta say something about the above post. I don't really like counrty/western music. that said, I chose to say country/western because it is a subgenre of a larger musical family. First and foremost, country music came from bluegrass, which came from jazz and classical music. to say that country music should not have bass is just wrong. the double bass (bass cello or upright bass if you prefer) and the tuba are both mainstays of bluegrass music as it doesn't have any drum or precussion (I intentionally didn't say rythym section as it certainly does have that) and those two instruments can easily play down to the 40 HZ range, the tuba, probobly lower. So while some counrty might be missing the low end, to say that country should not have bass is quite simply an incorrect statement. Perhaps there are other variations of country that you like and I simply am unfarmiliar with but I cannot comment on those...

kfr01: excellent reviews, I love that medeski album and will check out the Aurturo disc too.

my contributions: remastered reggae really pounds. I believe RCA rereleased their old marley albums in ADD and they really impress me particularly the album EXODUS. i also recommend victor wooten's album what did he say, very cool basslines on that disc

I'm assuming you are talking about Ludacris's "Get Back", because I played that video when I was looking for parking in my campus parking structure, and I set off some car alarms on the floor above me.

Here's some other songs (or videos for me posted_image), and yes they are all rap since that's what I usually listen to:
Nelly - Na-Nana-Na
Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz - What You Gon Do?
Mobb Deep - Real Gangstaz
Jay-Z - Dirt Off Your Shoulder
Bone Crusher feat Ying Yang Twins - Take Ya Clothes Off
Outkast - Ghettomusick

Nappy Roots - Aww Naww

Outkast - Several songs on Stankonia

Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love

Three6Mafia- F*** that S***, Like a Pimp(Remix), Sippin' on some Syrup, or anything else

Trick Daddy - Thump in the trunk (last 30 seconds of the skit)

that new 50 cent - I think it's called Candy Shop or something

Rappin 4-Tay - Off Parole

I'm trying to think of some non rap songs... having trouble with that, which sucks because about 5 years ago I didn't listen to rap at all, but I still had subs. Hmmm. I remember listening to a lot of Rob Zombie, Fear Factory - Shock had several really low hits in it. I guess that was also when Korn and Limp Biskit were really popular. Korn is still pretty good for full range music. I'll come up with some more later...

Oh yeah, can't forget the Doc.! The Chronic can still hold it's own with the best of 'em, plus I don't know about you, but every time I listen to it it takes me back 10 years to when the T-tops were off and the smoke was rollin', hehe.

Sir-Mix-Alot Posse on Broadway was what got me turned on to 12volt.

The 2.0 album from Garbage is an all time favorite of mine. If you have not heard this album you need to.

The only other song that comes to mind is Enigma can't remember the name of that song but it was something about saying young or something. I witnessed first hand a windshild crack due to this song. This was like 14 years ago.

i was just surfing around but couldn't resist this little topic.....ok dont laugh but "fly me to the moon" by frank sinatra.....is some serious tight bass in the beginning.....and it really turns some heads when people are expecting some sort of ganster rap and hear ole blue eyes instead........but if you really want some bass and i mean really, really want to work your system over i cannot stress enough about the greatful dead barton hall in ithica ny, 1977 the second set starts out with a KILLER scarlet begonnias that Phil Lesh is just dropping the bomb all over you....and coincidentely it is available for down load free of charge at.....https://deadshow.org/Dan/          give it a try you might just like it.................

My new favorite: the Telarc DSD re-master of the famous 1978 recording of Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra performing the 1812 Overture with real cannons.  OHMYGOD if you can reproduce this without distortion or speaker breakup, you have one heck of a system.  Makes rap and techno sound like the wimpyass synthesized fake bass it is.  And if you have SACD in your house, better nail down the furniture, mama.

This disk absolutely kills.  It is the only thing I've ever played on my THX Reference certified HT system that bottomed out the M&K sub system (which means it near 150db in the HOUSE) and drove my Sunfire Theatre Grande amps into clipping-induced shutdown.  Ouch!

Hmm, how about track 65 on bass mekanix with 4 9512DD's and 4 Mmats 3000.05's 5 optima yellow tops in a CRX. That song slammed pretty hard, (161 on TL). Actually I think the correct term would be, "beatin retarded".

My favorite bass cd is and always will be Techmaster PEB 2000. It was so far ahead of its time.

I'm not much of a rap listener ( at all) but a customer had left a cd at the shop a few years ago and I still use it to demo systems because of its bass, Project Pat.

How about some Pink Floyd tracks

1 Sorrow , great bass synth that drops really low at the beginning and end of the track, the live version is even better(Pulse). I was there at Earls Court in London and the place was literally shaking.

2. On the run (dark side of the moon)

3 Shine On You Crazy Diamond(W.Y.W.H)

4.Welcome to the machine(Wish You Were Here)you sub will love this, careful.

5. Run Like Hell , off the live Pulse album. Theres an explosion at the end of the track, just watch you sub with this one.

6. One Of These Days

Try some Floyd, they put some real great bass lines into there music and it is really well produced.

Dillinja and Lemon D are too much bass...

Crazy...these guys roll around to shows with two semi trucks...one in nothing but a huge bass cabinet (something crazy like 72 subs) and the other is a power supply cuz most venues cant provide enough electricity to drive them...

The track "what bass" is perfect for pissing off your neighboors neighboors neighboor across the street...

Alright, so I'll toss in some suggestions :)

I just recently dug out the old "The Score" album by the Fugees, and there are some tracks on there that have some great bass.
Maroon 5's "Secret" is pretty bass-heavy
There's a handful of Dire Straits tracks (for the non-rap/techno folks) that have awesome bass - of course there's the intro to the full-length version of Money for Nothing, the track "So far away" (on the "Brothers in Arms" album), or "Fade to Black" and "You and Your Friend" on the "On Every Street" album. Great tunes with great bass :)

The only other song that comes to mind is Enigma can't remember the name of that song but it was something about staying young or something. I witnessed first hand a windshield crack due to this song. This was like 14 years ago.

"Return To Innocence" By Enigma might the the track you were thinking of, excellent track but I always thought "Sadeness" sounded better. Try Delerium for this kind of laid back stuff too.

For other tracks [not rap] try:

Oxide & Neutrino - "Devils Nightmare"
Juno Reactor - "Conga Fury"
Super Furry Animals - "Alternate Route To Vulcan Street"
Fischerspooner - "Horizon"
Dire Straits - "On Every Street"

I've seen Marilyn Manson's version of "Sweet Dreams [are made of this]" mentioned earlier in this topic, but that cover isn't a scratch on the original Eurythmics version. Try it in your system if you have a copy.

Albums [also not rap] try these:

The Streets - "Original Pirate Material"
The Prodigy - "The Fat Remixes"
...almost anything by The Chemical Brothers is worth a listen too.

Bass Mekanick (however it's spelled) - good for checking your systems capacities.

Dynamix Twins - quite a number of albums, low frequency rhythms.

As funny as it sounds, the first album of Enya.  There are some bass notes that are really low, not skull crushing, just low frequency.

LFO - Low Frequency Output.

any jungle or drum n bass will make your eyeballs rattle on a nice system.  Try ak1200, dieselboy or dj dara.  As for reggae, anything by the wailers generally has good solid bass lines, especially some of the remastered stuff, try the remastered version of exodus (best marley album, imho).  For rock, tool, rage against the machine, ane jane's addiction all thump.  Modest mouse has some of the deepest bass i've ever heard in modern rock, i think due to some of their post-production techniques.  The new Korn album has been thumping in my car fo about 2 weeks now, still not sick of it.  As for hip hop, dirt of your shoulder by jay-z is the jam.  Also check out let's go by trick daddy, lil jon and twista, santana's town part II by juelz, and sunshine by ghostface and trife da god.  Hope that helps!
