Here's a few songs I like to use when testing out speakers or a new setup:
-Linkin Park - FRGT10 (Reanimation) stereo effects and lots of high freq and some deep sub hits
-Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights [The Phone Lovers Remix] (Romance Bloody Romance) this song has a lot of synth, good for testing mids and highs and clarity, bass kicks are hard and solid, bass comes in heavy once in a while
-Yuuka - Margalet (Madlax OST) classical instruments and chorus vocals, no drums but there is string bass, flute solo
-Yoko Kanno -Santi-U (Macross Plus For Fans Only) so many audio effects with a pounding taiko-like drum in the background, I find it is a good test for the range of the setup
-Outkast - Intro from the Speakerboxx album, this is a gooood bass test :)
-Gorillaz - Spitting Out The Demons (Feel Good Inc, japanese EP) if you can get a hold of this song, it's also a good bass tester, of a different kind. It also has a loud synth lead in the beginning that can push lesser mids pretty hard. Still, the bass line about 1/2 way through the song is the real goody :)
So, there you have it, that's what I test my stuff with. I recommend these songs to anybody who wants to see what their speakers can do with a variety of genres, without having to think ;)
days of the new, the yellow cd
all acoustic rock, really good for testing the high end
