Hello All

new to the forum, and looking for some help setting up my amp and sub. a friend of mine gave me an Alpine MRV-T407 amp, and an Alpine SWR-1042D sub. What would be the correct wiring setup from the amp to the sub? the back of the sub has quite a few connectors on it an im a bit cinfused. Also do you think that the amp will power the sub? im not looking for super thumping bass.

How many connectors does it have? Im assuming it has 4. 2 on each side of the sub. They would be 1 positive 1 negative per side making it a dual voice coil sub. You also need to look to see what impedence it is. It should say on the bottom of the magnet.

yes it is a dual voice coil. and the impedence is 4ohms

Wire the coils in parallel (both coil +'s to amp output +, both coil -'s to amp output -) to the amp. This will load the amp to 2ohms for max power output.

The sub has 2 4ohm voice coils on it. So, if you have them hooked up in series (like in the above pic) then that is 8ohms (4ohms of resistance plus 4ohms '' ''). The amp is loaded at 8ohms, which is twice the resistance of 4, so the amp will put out about 100watts x 1 (bridged) @ 8ohms, since it puts out 200watts @ 4ohm.

*****In my earlier responses I was thinking your amp was a 1channel -it's not- so I told you to wire the coils up in parallel for a 2ohm load which is not correct. I apologize for not doing the research posted_image . If you bridge the amp @ 2ohms, it will either not turn on or it won't last very long -possibly taking the sub with it.

Your only option is how you have it wired now.

OR, if you want the extra power (and only 3dB's in theory) then you can run 1 coil to the bridged amp. The amp puts out 200watts RMS bridged @ 4ohms, and each coil can handle 250watts RMS -a little more like 375 if you use one at a time, but we won't get into that because they'll handle 250watts each anyways. That's if you want the 3dB's, which most people can't notice anyway.

Ok so if i am following you correctly posted_image if I take out the Jumper wire that will give me 4ohms? sorry for my ignorance, and thank you for your help

Just connect 1 coil of the sub to the bridged output from the amp. 200watts to a 250watt coil = nice...

I can't see you pic, but if you just wire the + of one of the coils to the + of the bridged output of you amp, and the - from the same set of terminals to the - to the - of the bridged output of the amp, you will be good.
