I've posted before asking about the wiring but I've got a new problem. I want to install the aftermarket stereo that I had in my 2005. I know it is not just a simple swap. I have to get all new adaptors. My biggest concern is the interface that costs $70 or more! Whay couldn't I just hard wire the stereo using a relay for the turn on? I could just find a wire that has 12v when the key is in the on position and use that wire for the trigger. I'm not worried about having the radio on after I remove the key from the ignition. I never use that feature for anything other than as a "look what I can do" showing it to friends anyway.

I don't use those can-bus adaptors either, the cig lighter or accessory cig lighters on the dash usually provide me with a switched source for the deck. Don't waste the money, besides the cig lighters, I am sure there is an accessory under the dash, you wont even have to use a relay.

I guess this is what you are looking for. Audio/Mobile Video | | | | | | | | | | WIRE | | COLOR | | POLARITY | | LOCATION | | | Battery | | GRAY/RED | | (+) | | RADIO HARNESS | | | | | OR RED | | | Accesory | | LOOK AT NOTE ON THE BOTTOM OF PAGE THAT I WROTE ! | | | | | | | Ground | | BLACK/ DARK GREEN | | (-) | | RADIO HARNESS | | | | | OR BLACK | | | Illumination | | ORANGE / DARK BLUE | | (+) | | RADIO HARNESS | | | Amp Turn On | | DARK GREEN/ RED | | (+) | | RADIO HARNESS | | | LF Speaker (+) | | DARK GREEN | | | LF Speaker (-) | | BROWN / RED | | | RF Speaker (+) | | VIOLET | | | RF Speaker (-) | | DARK BLUE/RED | | | LR Speaker (+) | | BROWN / YELLOW | | | LR Speaker (-) | | BROWN / LIGHT BLUE | | | RR Speaker (+) | | DARK BLUE/WHITE | | | RR Speaker (-) | | DARK BLUE/ORANGE |
| Accessory 1 | | VIOLET/BROWN | | (-) | | IGNITION HARNESS |
The acc switched is a negative @ the ignition harness. Removing the steering wheel collum will give you access to the ACC Wire or 12v switched. Connect a relay like so to change polarity of the wire. Relay Pin Setup 85 - Constant 12v 86 - Ground from acc wire VIOLET/BROWN @ ignition harness 70 - High current 12v 30 - To 12v switched wire on deck.

So is there a alt. Wire harness other than the can-bus or are you saying you chop of the factory harness? And wire it up that way

you can use the factory harness. DONT CHOP grab a harness. THe only thing that is DATA is the Accessory wire or 12v switched from the Factory radio harness.

Aah kinda like a gm that has bose you can still use the american intn'l harness 344 you just have to use the remote wire to turn on the fact. Amp.
But in this case you gotta run a 12v switched, is this common on newer dodge/chrysler cars?
Learn something new everyday!
