I have a 03 Mistubishi galant, and until recently the radio keep popping and then i get no volume. It happens on AM, FM and when listening to a CD. I have an XM unit connected via a Delphi FM modulator. I checked all the connections to the headunit. the last thing i did was run wires (for a light on the dash) behind the dash, but i have not connected it yet.

Any ideas what is causing this before i go out and change the head unit?

Thanks
Toby

No infiniti system, the standard AM/FM/CD head unit.

hmm...  i wonder if the internal amplifier in your head unit is going bad...  take the head unit to a local shop and have them bench test it for you to see if it pops with there speakers/ ant.  is it a static pop or like a power surge pop??

In the beginning it was a loud pop, and then silence, now i hear some static, then the pop.
I was planning to disconnect the speakers one by one to see if thats the issue, but then i realized while poking around, i have to remove the rear deck. i am gonna buy a multi test tool to check the power to the head unit.

Update.
Now the radio pops, and then loud static noise, lowering the volume does not work. I gave up and just purchased a Pioneer DEH-1900, it looks nice. Going to try to install it this weekend.

Thanks for your help.
