I have a Diamond D3 12" sub...My box is pretty good. My main question was if I vent it, will I notice better sound?

This is about the most general question you could have asked. Read here for yourself and decide for your app...

it's not nearly that simple.  Some subs are designed for use only in a ported enclosure, others only sealed.

The ones in the middle can usually sound good ported or sealed as long as the enclosure is built in accordance with the sub.

I got the t/s specs from diamond's site, and honestly - those subs don't model well ported OR sealed (better sealed), but sometimes you have to trust a reputable manufacturer more than enclosure design software.

The only way to find out is to build one and see.  According to the manual 2.0 cf with a 4" diameter port that's 8" long.

normally ported sealed boxes will not yield good results...why??

well sealed boxes are 99% time too small to work well as a ported system.

This is not 100% true - take Kicker Solo Barics for example; they look to be MUCH better in a sealed box then a ported on in WinSD, but everyoner knows they should go ported. There are several others out there that I can't remember that model similarly. It all just depends on which variables are different that are/can not be entered into the software program...
