has anyone put a JL 8W7 in about a half a cube? JL calls for .875 I think and I was wondering if anyone knew if it still sounded good in a little smaller sealed box.

Without recalling from experience with that woofer or even looking at it using help aids, I can tell you without blinking that you will take away all ablility for that 8" to produce sub frequencies if you take away that much airspace. Dropping from .875 to .5 is very close to half. There would likely be a noticeable decrease in low end response if you even only dropped the airspace to .8 cu ft.
------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
