Im new here but I did search and still couldnt find much answers. but if its a repost im sorry.
Ever since I removed my dash to paint it, and put it back my Panasonic deck stopped working. When I took it out to look at it better, two exposed wires touched and sparked. So I taped up the exposed aera and checked my fuses and there all fine. My friend said that, the spark could mean its not grounded. but I traced the wire and its grounded to the frame. The fuse in the deck is fine, all wires are well connected, everything else on my dash is working. I was told to get a voltmeter, I did but I have no idea how to use it. I saw in another thread to hit the "reset" button on the back of the face. But when I look on the back there isnt any. I have a Panasonic CG-HR1003U.
When I turn the ignition all the way (before accually turning the car on) I do hear a ticking noise that sounds like its comming from a large fuse under the hood, I only noticed when my deck stopped working. not sure if it always made that sound.
Any idea what could be worng?
Im pretty sure, it was the speaker wires. they where both white wires with a black stripe, I think. Ok I looked up how to sort of use my voltmeter. I was wondering what settings do I put it at? my things says VDC, VAC, ADC, BAT, and Ohms.
Well your speaker wire colors are green, purple, white, grey with the black striped ones being the negative of those wires. So you cant have touched 2 like color wires together unless it was the postive and negative wire of that speaker. Now it is very possible to cause a spike by touching the positive and negative speaker wires together while the deck is turned on. I have already done that with my amp. It spikes then shuts the amp off for a moment. I doubt it would have blown a fuse though.
Dealing with your voltmeter. The only one I know you dont use is VAC as that is house current volts.
