OK here's the deal, started off with 4 alpine type-r's, 2 off-brand gravity 2200 watt amps running each 2 subs. ran cool for a minute then ran into alternator/battery problems due to the amps demanding so much power, and i only ran 4 guage wire with a stock alt.

Sold the amps, took the subs out, ran sum 0 guage , ordered my HO alt, and now im buying some new amps. The amps are 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch P1000-1bd amps. I was planning on running them at 1 ohm since the amps produce 1000 watts @ 1 ohm. rms of each alpine type R is 500 rms so everything will be perfect. Im getting the amps for a good price from my friend at best buy so thats why im getting them.

Just trying to see is there anything wrong with going with a 1 ohm setup? Would you recommend it? and do i need to upgrade my BIG 3? my cables under the hood come from the factory with 4 guage wiring.

What impedance are the subs? Dual 2 ohm , or dual 4 ohm?
There isn't a problem with running an amp at 1 ohm as long as it's designed to do so.

An HO alt is not going to be the sole solution to your problem - you are going to need some serious capacity looking at those RF amps regardless of the amperage coming in - I couldn't imagine how fast those amps will fry a stock battery - I'd give it a weekend at best - with or without an HO alt.  I would highly recommend a quality deep-cycle - a Yellow Top or perhaps a Kinetik (or even two) to back up that alternator - you are going to be looking at 250 - even 300 amp pulls - an HO alt by itself will not maintain very long here.

I do find it extreamly hard to believe that the stock wiring in your car was 4-gauge - what vehicle is this? - the most modern cars I've seen have barely gotten to 8 gauge in the engine bay - regardless, with a pair of amplifiers that massive I'd upgrade to 2 or 0 gauge throughout the engine bay - don't replace the stock engine wiring, just run new wires alongside the existing wiring.

Sure, if you can back up the amps with proper voltage - I would expect to spend as much beefing up the electrical system as you did on one of the amps.

get the biggest alternator you can afford...suggested around 250-300 amp

I have a yellow top optima under the hood and in the trunk. and the car is a 1999 buick park avenue ultra. stock alt is 125 amps because everything in the car is electrical so it needs juice. i run 13.4 volts stock. and the biggest HO alt i can find for my car is a 200 amp from DB electrical, i was prices 200+ shipping. i do have some extra 0 guage wire I will look into adding on to my stock wiring. so i have to replace my pos cable to my alt, my ground from my battery, and what else?
