I have 2 12" Earthquake DBX single 4 ohm coil subs in a bandpass box. These subs are the old black ones. A friend had 1 12" DBX dual 4 ohm sub in a ported box that was made by the shop for that sub. That sub was also the old black one. Anyways, the sub had some scuff marks around the surround in 1 area. The surround in that same area also has no chips though werent all the way through. He used some glue to fix it. Also there was a 1" crack at that same section on the cone. He also used glue to fix it and looks very good and sealed. He went and sold me the sub and ported box for $20. It does work, but he wanted to get rid of it since hes not into that stuff anymore. I just wanted to know if $20 was a good deal?
I think it was a fine deal if it worked - I currently have 2 of the same ones you are talking about, but I got mine for $30(crackhead deals FTW). Anyway, I have been beating on mine for over 2 years now and most of the time, they have been in a ported box pushed by 400wrms+. I say bang it until it blows. I'd say put it in a ported box though, I didn't like mine sealed...
If we're talking about the same ones, mine say DBX-12 on the backs of them. The specs on the Earthquake website for the new DBX-12R's IIRC are the same as far as box size and whatnot.

Yea but the new ones which are red are able to handle 1000 watts instead of 800 watts. What are some good ways to patching the crack in the cone without actually re coning it?
Another thing.. Is there a certain amount of space needed from the face of the sub to the back of the trunk? I bought that sub I mentioned up above and took measurements of the ported box that the store made for it. The outside measurements are 19D 16H 14W. I would make 2 of them side by side. The bandpass box that Is in my trunk now is only 15 1/4 in depth. I cant push it all the way against the back of my seat because of my amps. Measuring from the back of the box to the back of my trunk, I have 21 inches. If I put the ported box in with the sub installed, That box would come out 19 1/2". Is 1 1/2" of space infront of the sub enough?
I would think that there needs to be some room in front of the cone, but as long as it doesn't touch anything you should be ok...
