I have a 91 BMW 525i and I was wondering does it have OEM amplifier on each speaker or just one for all? Because I put a aftermarket cdplayer and someone told me that I have to turn off its OEM amp so it will sound better. please help thnx
to my knowledge there is one amplifier in the vehicle and it is in the left rear quarter panel, accessible from the inside of the trunk. Since its a 525 im guessing that it has the 10 speaker system (3 ways in the front, 2 way components in the rear). There really is not way to turn the amp off and still get sound to your speakers without bypassing it. If you follow the harness that goes into the amp, you'll find that about 2 feet back from the clip you can get to 14 twisted pairs. 4 of which are input from the deck, and 10 of which are output from the amp. Easy to bypass without running any wires once you figure out which wires are the inputs (look behind the deck for color and guage) and then test the outputs. Good luck.
The last time I look there is only one amp. The OEM amp does not make a significant difference that you will notice it. The amp, like with the word suggest, does only one thing which is to amplified sound. If you want greater performance from your amp than you have to go in aftermarket and rewire your system.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
