Amp quick connect/disconnect thingy?

I need a harness or device of some sort that will allow be to connect and disconnect my amp quickly. At certain times I will need to remove my amps from my car. I don't want to have to unscrew all the wires every time. I know this is out there, but any suggestions. Let your creative minds work!

What size power/ground wire is connected to the amp? How many speaker wires? And what about patch cables?

8 gauge power and ground from dist. block. 4 speaker wires. patch cables?

patch cables=RCA cables=signal cables gotta think about this now that you've given me that info... oh yea I also forgot to ask, and this is quite important....what kind of amp is it? (model number?).

got ya! It's a 4ch amp so I have 2 sets of RCA's. It is a crunch V-4200. Thanks

lol I can't find a good picture of this amp...I've looked EVERYWHERE! there's one picture that everyone has, and it's of the side of the amp with the RCA connections so it's pretty useless. I guess you could tell me, what kind of terminals/connections are on the amp. in other words, are they the set-screw kind where you stick the wire end into a hole? or are they the screw-terminal kind where you have a phillips-head screw that holds down a little square of metal, which clamps down on the wire?

First thought on the 4 speaker outputs is to get some quick disconnect terminals like you would find on an enclosure (the ones with the black and red quick disconnect terminals). Attatch it to the vehicle somewhere, or mounting base, and hardwire your speaker wires from it to the speakers (just like the inside of an enclosure). Keep the speaker wires from the amp screwed into the amp, and just pop the other ends into the qdt. Presto... quick disconnect speaker wires. I'm still thinking about the power, ground, and RCA's ------------- Squirrel

that's basically what I was thinking of. The RCAs are cake (label them and plug/unplug), and the speaker wires I knew wouldn't be a problem since they're a lot smaller than the power and the ground--now THOSE are a different story. I too am still trying to figure this part out. Too bad the amp doesn't have screw terminals, that would make it a lot easier I think. Oh well, we'll figure out something though .......

Screw terminals would deffinately help! But, I think in this case having set-screws can be a plus. If Dyer is creative enough, he can go even farther with our ideas... what about attatching the qdt's directly to the amps terminals using a harded (maybe heavy gauge single strand copper) wire. Would deffinately look interesting, and unfortunately the whole project is adding more "problem spots" into the system. But I can understand why he is thinking about it. When I parked in a parking garage I hated to leave my system out there. ------------- Squirrel

I appreciate your thoughts. I was thinking along the same lines as y'all actually, but just like you the power and ground has stumpted me. The power is 8ga. from dist. block and the ground is also 8ga.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before! All you need is to put an inline fuse on both the power and ground wire about 6 inches away from the amp. If you use an inline fuse holder that unscrews (by hand) to get to the fuse, then there's your quick disconnect  All you have to do is unscrew it and put the fuse in a safe place while you're gone. I know you wouldn't usually fuse the ground wire, but in this case I don't think it would hurt anything!!!! ------------- Squirrel

Also if you check the Parts Express Catalog, you gan find quick disconnects for as thick as 2 gauge. There called "Breakaway" Power Connectors and there about $18.50 each. As far as the speaker wire, you can find those quick disconnects for them at Radio Shack. Then you can just unplug your RCA wires. Hope this helps.
