I have a single type r 12" sub  (swr-1222D). I am building a ported box for a 2000 lincoln ls. I am not excactly sure what size to make the port. i am wanting to use a slot type port. In the manual it calls to be tuned to 33hz. my measurements of the box are front height 14" .rear height 10", width 20", and depth 17.5". in the calculator that comes to 1.79 ft^3. on the manual it calls for 1.7ft^3 gross internal volume. I believe this is a 2007 model sub. this is the first box i have built. completely new to the game. If anyone has ported slot dimension ideas, and suggestions on the placement they will be greatly appreciated.  Also my amp is a hifonics 1200 watt 1 channel amp(bxi1206d).

I've had great results with between 2.0-3.0 cu ft for the Type R's. Seems like they like bigger enclosures...I've had one in a 1.5 cu ft and it was alright.

What kind of bass output are you aiming for??

well i could prob go up to only a bit over 2 cu ft due to the amazingly short trunk in my ls. what measure of tuning do you recommend?

ok. i got it fixed.... i am looking for any suggestions on port sizes for my box. i know the manuual to the swr-1222d type-r 12 list a tuning of 33hz. Maybe someone knows if this sounds good or if i should maybe go with something different. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated..

I like the Type R in around 2.4 cu ft ported between 30-35Hz.

THANKS. Do you prefer a slot port or a round port?

Either will work fine as long as the port is has enough area to keep air velocity down

ok. i think i am going with a slot port. my new design box has a gross interior volume of 2.4168 cu ft (not subtracting speaker displacement (.071 cu ft) or anything else. If tuning it to 33hz, do you have any idea what the dimensions of my port be...? I tried using the calculators and dont think i am doing it right. thanks again....
