Ok, so i got the deck finally hooked up just bypassed the original and wired each speaker up myself, but now when I turn it on and try to turn up the volume at about 17 18 vol level it just cuts off, is this because it doesnt have enough power? Is there an easy way I can fix this problem? Any advice would help, thanks

When you connected the new speaker wires to the speakers, did you cut the original wires at the speaker so they are not still connected to the factory amp that is still in your trunk?    According to info at metra-online. com, this car requires an amp bypass plug that is 204 inches long.  The wire colors listed on that previous post are all in the trunk of your car.  If you did not use the harness, where did you get Constant and Switched power?

yeah I cut the original speaker wire and spliced into the connectors that connect to the speakers, I got the power and ground from the original wiring of the car that was hooked up to the original stereo. Im thinking I just dont have enough power for the 6 factory speakers, but im really not too good at this stuff. The deck is a 200wt 50 x 4 channels so i only hooked up 4 of the 6 factory speakers, when I turn up the volume past 20 25 it will cut off, or when the screen is open it cuts off when the volume is at about 17 18, is this just a simple problem of not having enough power??

Yes it sounds like you are not getting enough power.  Did the factory radio have an antenna plugged into it?   If it did not have an antenna, There are no high current capable wires in the harness to supply adequate power to the new deck.  You need to run the yellow wire of the radio either to the battery or to the cigarette lighter plug, that should be an orange wire.

Can somebody confirm for me that this vehicle does have a tuner/amp in the trunk?

No, im pretty sure the factory radio didnt have an antenna plugged into it. What guage wire should I use? Im going to try this and let you know if it works, and yeah im almost positive there is a tuner/amp in the trunk, this car came with its own factory system 1 speaker/tweeter in each door (4doors) and 2 more speakers in the back

Since you've apparently already chopped off the factory wiring harness (never a good idea) perhaps THIS tutorial will help you.

honestly I got lost in that post, im not someone who understands all this. One of my friends who hooked up my last system is the one who cut the factory harness and now he is nowhere to be found. I have it working just cant figure out why it cuts out when the volume goes up

It probably cuts out when the volume goes up because the factory speakers cannot handle the head unit power, or are too low an impedance load for the head unit.  You will probably need to replace the speakers with proper after market units, and you may need to get some help from a pro in your area if you can't follow the instructions on this web site.

Wow I thought we were dealing with a jensen head unit.      Do you have access to a volt meter so we can do a little troubleshooting?  Did you connect all 6 speakers to the head unit.  The 4 doors and the 2 in the rear deck?

right now there are only 4 hooked up to the deck, 1 in each door. what exactly do you mean by troubleshooting? ill do whatever I can to fix it

Set your meter to the DCVolts setting.  If it is not an auto ranging meter set it to the 20 volts scale.   Touch and hold the black meter lead to the case of the radio.  Touch and hold the red meter lead to the yellow wire of the radio.  Turn the radio up to just before it starts to cut out.  Notice the reading on the meter.  Balance the radio to the left.  Turn it up and see if it cuts out.  Balance it to the right, and check again.  Let me know the reading, and let me know what happened with only one side at a time.

the meter i have doesnt have a 20 volt scale it only has 1v-1000v i did what you said and it was at 1.3-1.4 when it cuts off, i dont have a clue wht that means. I also tried to balance it to the left and right but the problem with that is I have to open the screen up to do it and as soon as i open the screen it will cut off and close the screen.

With the volume all the way down, do the thing with the meter again.  Black to case of radio and red to the Yellow wire.  You need to connect the red lead to the metal part of the wire.  where you connected the yellow wire to the orange wire would be a good place to do this.

When you said the yellow wire is connected to an orange wire, is it the orange wire at the cigarette lighter, or is it an orange wire of the factory wiring?

i did it with the volume down and it was pretty much exactly the same 1.3-1.4, its the orange wire of the factory radio. I went through all the wires of the factory radio, is there suppose to be a wire that has power even though the car key is in the off position? cause i couldnt find one, with that meter atleast

i tested the orange and yellow factory and they both show some power in the acc position but the orange to the cigarette lighter doesnt show anything

Looks like you jumped into something you cant handle...
I figured out what exactly was needed with my Seville and said screw it. The parts are still sitting in my living room waiting for me to have time to drop it all off at a shop.

Cutting off the harness was a dumb move. The wires you need are most likely in the trunk.

I do not know what you have your meter set on but it should be reading between 12 and 13.5 volts depending on whether the engine is running.  Try this, get a decent size wire and a 15 amp fuse and a fuse holder.  Connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal of the battery.  Temporarily run the other end of the wire into the car and connect it to the yellow wire of the radio.  Check the radio and let us know what happens.

yeah i know im in for some work but if I can do it myself I will, im not the one who cut the harness,i let a friend of mine hook up my last system and he cut it and threw out the pieces. Im going to try what you said above just gotta get a fuse and fuse holder, ill let you know how it goes

i am an idoit you are my hero man, I went outside with a thicker gauge wire and it works perfectly. Thanks alot man for all your help and patience for a newbie. Just another question though, I only have 4 of my factory 6 speakers hooked up im not too worried about hooking them up now but if I do will it be too much for the deck to power? It still sounds great with only the 4 so I can make do if so, until I can get a amp or 2 and some subs, but yeah thanks again for all your help

I would wait until you can get the amp.  I have seen decks survive a 2 Ohm load but I WOULD NOT reccomend it. If the output chip fails the typical repair price would be over $100   You would be much better off spending that $100 dollars on an amp.

Good thing you didn't go rushing out to buy some new speakers.

yeah thanks, ill just wait like you said till I can get an amp or 2 and my subs. Yeah if it wasnt for your help i'd prolly be buying all kinds of stuff I didnt need

We did one today with the 204 inch harness and all.  There is a difference in the kits.  Is your shifter on the column or on the center console?

its on the column, do you think this one would work?

I didn't have time to look at the link, but I did notice that it says it is for 96 to 99 models.  According to the title of this thread, you have a 95
