i have heard that silicon vapors can damage a subwoofer if you don't let it dry first, does the same go for latex.

The Zylene released by silicone rubber cement can damage some foam surrounds used on some speakers.  In general, rubber or accordian paper surrounds are not affected.  AFAIK latex does not release solvent fumes when it cures, although latex calking (assuming that's what you're talking about) is not nearly as effective as silicone for mounting speakers or sealing enclosures, since it is not as pliable nor does it seal as well.
