Hey guys, I know there are already a few threads on here about this topic, however, generally the thread goes off topic and ends up talking about something else completely...

I just have a query for anyone out there, whether you have a 12" Type X or not, what enclosure have you found to be the best suited.

I was running a sealed enclosure that matched specs alpine provide in the user manual exactly, save for a double thick mounting face, and the sub ripped the front panel out!

I bumped the size up to a 2.7cf box which gave the sub 2cf after the magnet displacement and support braces, but this then I have found, i am getting a much softer bass, not as punchy and definately not as loud, sounds like there is too much air in there now, and im losing alot of power.

I just cannot seem to get the enclosure perfect, neither capacity or shape.

ANYONE OUT THERE PLEASE HELP ME!!! everything else (my fronts and rears) no dramas, just the sub enclosure..

IMO...the sub sounds best in a nice ported enclosure suited to the environment

Sounds like the specs Alpine provided produced the desired effect. Beef up the construction of your box. Use a thicker MDF, use a lot of nails and screws in addition to glue, fiberglass, etc.. Whatever it takes to keep it from ripping itself apart. But then you should have some pretty punchy bass it sounds like.

A brad nailer and compressor work very well though

some noobies may mistake nails for using a hammer and nails...really they may. I've seen some pretty ghetto installs and enclosures using nails

Ok, I think I'm gunna go with markdjr's suggestion, which is what i was assuming i would have to do...

But seriously... this box is gonna be really heavy... and quite punchy... but with this sort of sub, hopefully not =)

I think i will double layer the sub face of the enclosure again, but i will put the bottom layer in between the two side panels, and then the top layer over the top of the side panels with the sub bolted to it... extra strength...

Maybe a bracket or two? It is just tedious and really time consuming work for me! i jjust want an enclosure that will last!

Arghh!!!! so much work in the world of 12 volt!!

IMHO, that is the proper way to build a double-baffle box the way you described; I wouldn't build it any other way.

You may want to try designing one of the box braces to hold up the rear of the driver to help support the weight and all. That may help if if is ripping off the baffle...

i am using 18mm MDF

i think that converts to 0.7 inches according to google conversions...

do you think that is thick enough?

type x is a pretty heavy duty sub. Definitely needs some strong support to withstand the power. 3/4" MDF should do the trick just fine. But if you want the assurance of a sound structure you CAN upgrade to 1". However, bigger board bigger bill. Remember that...

I've got an Adire Audio Tumult 15, which is heavier than the Type-X by a little over 10lbs, running 1000w RMS in a 5/8" MDF box with 3/4 front baffle to keep down on the weight as the box is ported 3.5cu ft and I drive a sporty car so I'm trying to keep the weight added minimal. It's just very, very well braced to keep strength and integrity. It also has a support ring around the magnet that is attached to the sides to take some of the strain away from the front of the enclosure. Works great and weighs less than smaller boxes I have made in the past with 3/4"
