Can anyone help me remove the factory faceplate of my 1998 mercury mystique? I have purchased the removal keys and try as I might, I still can't get it off. I have inserted the keys in the indicate positions and pushed to the sides as hard as I can but still can't get the faceplate off. I have pulled so hard on it, the part of the dash that holds the deck in started to come off the rest of the car... this is the most annoying deck I've had to remove... do I have to remove the dash to get at it or what? Anyone got pictures? :)

What kind of harness would I need? Just a standard ford/mercury harness? Also, I assume I need an install kit so that I can remove my new headunit for service in the future since just snapping the sleeve in the dash would not have any way of removing the headunit...

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, some cars are a pain in the ass to remove the factory decks. But just remeber they are just cars and are put together by peices. MOST cars you have to dissasemble the dash a little to get it out. You wont do any harm aslong as you just take your time and care. Dotn break any wires or anything. Most decks come with a DIN peice that will fit into your car. Probably wont have to get a new kit if its the standard DIN size. just remeber how to put it back together after you've taken it apart : )

Just put the removal tools into the holes until it clicks over once then try to push them towards or away from eachother to get the radio clips inside the radio to bend away from their holder. Be careful cuz those mystiques trim around the radio is extremely delicate. if you break it, better off getting a replacement.

Well, it turns out my keys were just extra crappy. My friend brought over his Snapon removal keys and took it out. Now, my only problem is that my iso-din sleeve doesn't fit in the factory slot (too small). Does anyone know where I can get a faceplate or install kit? I bought the Metra 99-5700 but it doesn't fit.

Now, my headunit is installed but loose and wiggly... and any idiot can steal it in 10 seconds or less...

According to my sources, you need to buy a replacement dash cover ( this new part has all the AC/heater control print on it... basically the entire oval part ). I ordered one for a customer ( it still hasn't come in yet ) but it cost us $ 50.00 for this part and I 'm not sure who manufactures it though.

You may be able to get away with a peice of ABS plastic textured and cut to fit. I think metra also may have some sort of faceplate adapter plate that you might be able to epoxy or otherwise affix to the back of you trim ring and it has a DIN sized hole. If this is the car I'm thinking of, like a ford escort, you can get a replacement plastic peice from metra with a DIN sized slot. They run like 40-50, but i once got one for 20 w/ an order from crutchfield. Merta's guide says it's the 99-5512 you want. It runs like $17.00, but I'm not certain it's what you'll need.
