voltage reading vs a/c waveform

Let me know what you guys think....When setting the gains on an amplifier for no clipping, is the voltage reading (like on a dmm) or the waveform (like on an oscope) a more reliable source? Im convinced that the waveform is more important because I can "see" the signal.

I personally agree with that. You're going to get both sides of that coin here, but I am also going to tell you don't waste your time...

Unless your driver is capable of handling the full (granted - unclipped) power your amplifier is capable of producing, you are still going to blow the driver.

If your driver is rated at a higher power than the amp is capable of deilvering, then "set it by ear", it's easy to hear!

That's just me... It's also the way I have done it forever, and I've never blown a driver. Well, there was that one Infinity eMit tweeter, (only rated 15 watts) but it WAS hooked to a 350wpc Carver amp... LOL
