i've heard that most of boston acoustics products are well underrated and can handle a lot more power than what the specs say. Does any one hear have the sl60 comps from them? they are rated at 80 watts rms each side and 220 peak, how much rms do you think they could handle before pushing the limits too far? thanks guys

I think you'd make yourself deaf if you got much farther than 80watts from a coaxial like that.

Boston speakers are well built however - I'd run anything up to 150~200watts as long as I knew my signal wasn't clipped.

well its not a coaxial its actually a component setup with woofer tweet and passive crossovers. but i was thinking about giving each side about 160 rms

shouldnt hurt them.. i am running some trpe r components 5 1/4 set  and i am pumping 125 rms to them and they are cleaner than snot...  and loud as heck too..   so you should be fine aroundthere  ...

Lovely analogy.

posted_image I thought the sl was the coaxial . . . oh well.

No matter - and seriously that's even better - passive xovers suck up lotsa watts - 160rms should motivate them quite nicely.

so somewhere around 160 shouldn't hurt them at all even though its twice the rated wattage?

It shouldn't hurt them provided the signal is not clipped....... however, I do agree that you will probably go deaf. What is the reason for running that much power to them? 125rms is generally the average for a decent set of components, so anything more than that and I have to wonder whether you value hearing! posted_image
