I see them advertised a lot. What is your/anybody's opinion on this brand and who makes them?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

They are decent, for a cheap brand. My first HU was a dual MP3 player. Got years of performance from that thing, then it was stolen.

Dual is part of a Korean company called Namsung (who bought the old well-respected Dual name when the original company went belly-up) and their products are made in China.  Low-end, low-quality, bad sounding.  I cannot recommend them.

my girl friend had one in her car and never had any problems with sound but the knobs started to fall off and the writing started to fade after a couple of months

Swap-o-rama specials... ranked right up there with Boss, Kenford, Rockwood, Audiobahn...

Garbage, pure and simple.

Their coaxials with blue lights were popular with the kids until we told them how much more the installation would be to run power and ground into the doors.  I'll bet the next step for them is to add "spinners" onto the speaker grills.

When working at Best Buy in the car audio department we would have to replace the floor models at least every month due to the fact that the motorization would freeze up and stop working.

The younger crowd loves the bright blue lights and motorization. I always pushed the service plan to everyone, with very good reason and intent for looking after the customer. I also didn't recommend them to anyone.

Dual car audio has always been made by Namsung.  Dual in its previous incarnation was a German company who made mainly turntables and a few other electronic devices.

Well, I don't know about a few months and motorization (*scratches head*), but mine lasted two years until it was stolen. Worked fine up until that point. posted_image  I certainly wouldn't use them now, I know there are a lot better brands out there.

i work at frys and my sales guys sell them all day..  only because we mark them up so hi and they get a decent amount of commision off them ...  but they dont know that i pull out about half of them within about a month to be replaced for direct swap or the customer just says heck with it and  buys a quality reciever.

I can't believe it worked...or it was stolen...hahaha

Maybe it was a friend trying to do you a favor. Steal the HU and force you to buy a new one.
