I am planning on using a signal processor to convert speaker level inputs to rca. I want to put the SP by the amps. I was planning on tapping into the speaker wires close to the factory head unit. That would mean running (i think) 11 wires from the head unit to the SP. Any recommendations on wiring solution? Can i use a multi conductor wire, run individual wires? Any issues bundling these together (tight and clean of course..)? Should i tap in else where?

How do you get 11 wires?  It is usually easier to mount the LOC near the head unit under the dash and run RCA cables to the amps, but I have mounted them near the amps and used speaker wire back and forth.  But 11 wires is a strange number...

I have a 4 channel SP so.....here's my math

8 for the speakers (4+ and 4-)
1 switched power
1 constant power
1 ground
---------------
11

okay so now that makes me think....i can get the switched, constant and ground from the amp wiring/setup....so umm make that 8.

Yes, and in fact you'll need 8 PAIRS, not 8 individual wires.  You'll need + and - for front left, front right, rear left and rear right, and you';ll need to run 4 pairs from the HU to the LOC, then 4 pairs BACK to connect to the speakers.  That's a LOT of speaker wire running back and forth.  It can be difficult to find a place for running all that wire and it is usually easier to keep the LOC under the dash and run RCA for the trip to the amp.  But it is OK to do it either way, in my opinion.

i was only talking about from the HU to the SP... i knew i had to run speaker wire as well, took that for granted. I guess finding a spot under the dash makes the most sense. thanks for the help

Another option that I've done, especially with larger processors, is to mount it under a front seat.  That way the speaker wire run from the HU to the processor is shorter, and then use RCA to the amp.

I am instaling this into my Dodge Ram.  I think ill put the processor in bottom compartment of the center front seat.  i don't use it for anything else.  Thanks for the idea....
