It is much more fun to connect a 6X9 to 120 volts. A subwoofer can take it the 6X9 doesn't last long at all. For safety we cut the end off of a decent size extension cord connect the speaker to it. Attach a rope to the end of the plug that you are fixing to plug into the wall. This is to make sure you can unplug it if something were to go wrong. Plug it into the wall and you have a dancing smoking speaker.

So thats the purpose if that to watch a dancin smokin speaker. Any other reasons I'm just curious cause a speaker takes signal and you are inputing a power signal

Yes. A "dancin', smokin' speaker".

We used to do it to blow a driver for warranty purposes. Eventually, nearly EVERY driver will blow, some just take longer than others. (Consider the power you are applying!)

120V X 1.414 = 169.68V pk-pk
170 * 170 / = 7225 watts peak power!
7225 watts / 170v = 42.5A

That's a TON of current to push through a little bitty voice coil wire (even though some are smaller than others!)

We used to have to clamp Eclipse Ti woofers face down to the bench to get em to "go away".

It CAN be dangerous, after all you are playing with live 120 volt current, and relatively bare wires. If one were to come loose, you certainly run the risk of shock.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
