What exactly is pink noise and whats its purpose?

Pink noise is a noise that contains equal amounts of energy in every octave. This is used in conjunction with a spectrum analyzer to EQ your audio system.

I'm told you can hear distortion very well with it, but I've never spent much time listening to it and can't vouch for the accuracy of that claim. One pro says to listen to pink noise for a little while, then go listen to your tap running, any lack of "smoothness" from your speakers (compared to the tap) is distortion.

Again, I can't say how true that is.

pink noise would be considered a perfect sq car.  they are to read on a scope as a flat line on all freq, sounds like crap to the ear but the ear isnt the judge in an sq comp.

lol my bad i am a little 420ed out right now lol.   but yea pink noise sounds like crap..  but great for comps . lol
