So I'm big on making everything look stock. With that, I don't want to charge my ipod with something plugged into my cigarette lighter. Has anyone cut the tip off a cigarette lighter plug and wired it into their +12v acc switch?

I'd like to do that and run the wires under my center console into the center console storage where my ipod is mounted. Any objections/tips?

It'll depend on the adapter... If there is a voltage regulator in it, you CANNOT just cut the plug off.

I have HEARD that the iPod has it's own internal buck/boost circuit that will allow an input voltage of 3V-30V DC, but do not quote me on that.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

hard wire it off of the cigarette lighter.  outside metal of the cig lighter to ground.   the tip of it to 12v.  make sure to solder them to hold right and make sure you dont melt the cig lighter when soldering the 12v..

you can do it....

Which method would give a more conistent 11-14V? And when is the cigarette lighter receiving a current?

As of now I'm still thinking behind the dash (my eq is being repaired so its easily accessible).

That is, unless someone has done the lighter method successfully...
