I have a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 that came with a Delco CD Player with no preamp outputs.

It would be possible to run speaker level output wires to high end external amps but is there anything to be gained from doing this?

The pickup truck has a odd size opening in it so finding a good Pioneer Supertuner 3 is like a mission impossible.

GM for some reason likes to use 10 ohm speakers, if they only made real car stereos I would not be changing out the sound system.

any feedback on this system a go go?

I don't think there's much point in doing a 4-channel amp unless you're planning on putting in aftermarket speakers and/or subs.  Getting 4-channel amps and hooking them up to aftermarket speakers is kinda pointless in my opinion.  As for the dash opening, isn't it just a din and a half?  Anyways I'm sure they make a dash kit for it which would let you put any standard aftermarket head unit in there.

If you did decide to go for a new head unit just be aware that I think this vehicle uses the class 2 wiring, which requires a special wiring harness.  You might also lose your door chime if you have one.  Here's more about class 2 wiring.

The best way to get better sound would be to first upgrade your speakers with some good aftermarket ones.  Once you've done that and are looking to go to the next step, I'd recommend getting an aftermarket head unit.  Only then should you think about getting a 4-channel amp.  Of course if you're just looking to add bass to the system, you can stick with the stock head unit and speakers and just add on a sub and an amp.
