I'm in the middle of attempting an SQ build and I'm wanting to replace my current sub amp (kenwood exellon 401M 600RMS @ 2ohm) with something a little more updated. These are the subs I'm running

I'm sure you can find a used PDX1.1000 for a good price somewhere. Unless you settle for a 1.600. ------------- 2013 Kia Rio -90a alternator

i'm glad you said something cause that was the amp i was really considering the most. id like to do one of those and two of the pdx 4 ch.... but the money has to flow first lol! thanks for the reply...

I have two of these woofers also. I believe your box is too large. According to Rich Taylor with Dayton Subs,1.2 cu ft for the Reference 12" with an F3 of approx 44Hz.Hope this helps!Best Regards,Rich Taylor. I put my two in a cabinet with a total volume of 2.4 and they rock. Very strong and great sq. I have a cheap Visonik V1800 amp on them and they still sound great. The amp is about 500 watts so the speakers could handle much more power. The two are in a Ford Escape sport utility vehicle. Back in the late 80's when I competed in stereo contests I posted spl's as high as 148 and I would say from memory that this setup is very close to that or even that high. This is my guess since I don't have a meter any longer. Just thought I would pass that info along. That box volume sounds really big for speakers with the Thiele parameters to me. Good luck. Daniel

Oh by the way, I was thinking about buying a PG V8001 from Parts Express as an upgrade to the Visonik. Right now the amp is around $300. I have a very old PG MS250 and I am very pleased with it. I also like the PDX1.1000 but the price is out of my reach right now.

Forget my suggestions to make your box smaller. I found another thread where a much more knoweldagle guy told you to use a 3.3 cu ft box. I am now trying to figure out how to make a bigger box for my Escape and still be able to carry dog food and groceries. The Daytons are awesome speakers though. I love mine even if they are in a small box.

ya, haemphyst has been helping me with everything. He's told me what toys to buy and the crossover points and all sorts of fun stuff like that. I thought 3.3cuft was way massive for those subs too (dave asked me how much room I was willing to give up then he figured up what would work well for my application), but I don't know just a whole lot when it comes to SQ, and He does, So I listen to him. Thanks for your replies though! every bit helps! I'm going with the PDX1.1000, PDX2.150, and a PDX4.100 ------------- ...don't crush the weasel...

I have one of those Dayton Ref 12" woofers in 2.2 cuft. Your enclosure is not too large. ------------- Support the12volt.com

The 1.600 would drive two of those woofers just beautifully. Now, if you're a nutjob, and completely over the edge, (as is your humble narrator - HE'S only driving a pair of 10's with one!  in isobarik, no less!) the 1.1000 will offer at least 3dB of headroom, while powering those woofers.
I know you'll be really happy with the Alpine, should that be your final choice!
As far as the enclosure... JBL Speakershop shows VERY favorable sealed responses from .879 cubes (with a system Q of .707 - "max flat") all the way up to the existing 3.3 cubes (with a system Q of .501 - "transient perfect") that you say you've got available. The benefit to the larger enclosure is the overall system power requirements will be lower! Nice...
I think the enclosure you have will be just fine! ------------- It all reminds me of something that Moličre once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
