I currently drive a 1996 acura 2.5 TL running the following (for the past 3 yrs):
- Kenwood excelon KDC-X789 head unit
- 1 set of boston acoustics SL60 6.5 components in the front
- no rear speakers
- 1 pioneer T252C 10" sub in the trunk
- Rockford fosgate 2002 Type RF X5 powering the sub (275 X 1 @ 4ohm, 525 X 1 @ 2ohm)
- Rockford fosgate T5002 powering the front speakers (75 X 2 @ 4ohm, 150 X 2 @ 2 ohm)
- 2 1 farad rockford capacitors
The wife is getting a new car, so I am trading in the TL and inheriting the 2003 Honda CR-V EXL. Originally, I wanted to retain as much as I could from the Acura, but based on the fact that crutchfield is telling me most of the components I want won’t fit, my desire to have a simpler and smaller footprint in the CRV (want to keep stock, don’t want to fabricate or customize), and the fact that the alternator is only 90 amp in the Honda (110 amp in the Acura), I am now questioning my plan. I like SQ over SPL, I don’t compete I’m just a daily driver, but I love to crank it up (I have varied music interests from rock to hip/hop to dj/techno/trance). I plan on replacing the Big three, but not desiring to put in a HO alternator if I can help it.
The plan I had was buy new Boston Acoustics Pro50’s (5 1/4") for the front, leave the rear empty, and I just bought a new Boston Acoustics SPG555SS 10” sealed enclosure (1000 RMS @ 2 ohm per the specs).
My question is should I (sorry it took so long to get hear but I’m trying to be complete):
1) Selling the 2 amps I have and get a 5 ch Alpine PDX5 amp to power the whole setup? Seems like I could bridge the front 2 channels (150 X 2) and run the sub off the 300 X 1 sub channel. Wiring would be simpler and the unit is very small and it’s only 1 amp versus 2. But, I’m not sure that will be enough power to drive the sub the way it should. I think the BA front’s should be fine.
2) Get a different amp solution, if not Alpine and possible get a different component set for the front?
3) Or just use the amps and the speakers I have – will the power be too much for the Honda?
Any help/suggestions anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
My wife has a 2000 crv the fronts are 5 /14 the rear are 6 1/2. I am also running boston's with a Fosbrake HE12" I am using a 5 channel Eclipse amp 35X4 with 125X1.
With that current setup it works fine with the stock charging system. As long as you don't beat on it real hard you should be fine. But if you start to crank on it you might run into problems. If it ends up being to much on your system then you could always sell the amps and pick a smaller one.
I know not the answer you was really looking for a dead yes or no. Hope it helps thought.
All info always helps - thanks for the post.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
