You can't get a 1 ohm load using eight 4 ohm coils... https://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=4&I=42

can't!!  you can get it as low as .5 ohms, and 2 ohms....but you can't get it too 1 ohm!

Why do you WANT one ohm? Are you under the mistaken impression that doubling your power (which it doesn't) by halving your impedance REALLY gets you something? Well it DOES get you something: Heat, inefficiency, higher distortion, shorter amplifier life.

What it DOESN'T get you is a noticeable increase in output. That amounts to less than 3dB, which, as I tell everybody, in a daily driver, this will be an insignificant (as in inaudible) gain. Are you building an SPL competition car? (Notice how I stressed COMPETITION. I do mean TRUE competition.) If so, then you simply chose the wrong woofers, and you should have somebody that knows what they are doing build your system.

The spiz has spoken...

my ohmmeter is too short, and has a rash on it!

Build the box half the size you think you need it to be.  Mount all 4 subs, but only hook two of them up.

Use only one voicecoil on each speaker and wire them in parallel. Be aware that your overall power handling will be 50% of what it should be as one entire set of coils are not being used.

That is a perfectly viable option, but total power handling will be about 80% of the total rated RMS, not 50%...

The total available RMS from the amplifier at 1 ohm is not likely to be twice what it is at 2 ohms.

Unless it's a super amp, it's a wash...and the amp is running hot at 1 ohms to get there.  And if it IS a super amp, OP would be using the correct subs to achieve the target impedance, right?  There are options, and then there are practical options.  This one falls into the first category,  which suggests why using one coil on each sub was not previously advised.

Nope.  You get 1 or 4.
