is there a common way to bring the aftermarket (alpine) midrange out to the same level as the factory midrange? the factory bose speaker is integrated with a plastic basket that places the speaker closer to the inside of the door panel and directs the sound into the cab. if the alpine midrange is installed against the steel part of the door it places it pretty deep inside the door panel, and it must block and absorb a lot of the sound. so is modifying the old speaker assembly the way to go or is there a better way?

If you can modify the factory plastic basket that would be the way to go if not, you could always make a new baffle out of MDF, and soak  it with resin to "waterproof" it before mounting it onto door.
