Hey guys, I have a dual battery setup and my amps are Kicker 1500.0 and Kicker 350.4. The 1500 recommends 150amp inline fuse and 1/0 gauge power wire. The 350.4 recommends a 50 amp inline fuse and 8g power wire.
My plan is to run power from my aux battery. Put a inline fuse at the positive of the aux battery, run 1/0 gauge to a distro block and then to my amps. Couple questions now.
1.) Since the 1500 wants 150 amp and the 350 wants 50 amp fuse, do I get a 200 amp fuse for the one at the battery or should I go up to a 250?
2.) For the distro block, should this be a fused distroblock and can i put a 150 and a 50 on each line going to the amps?
3.) I can use 1/0 guage to run to the 1500 from the distro block, but do you see any problems running 4 gauge to the 350.4 even though it only calls for a 8g? I don't see a problem but wanted advice from here.
4.) Do you see anything missing that I might need also?
Thanks for the help!
Allen
You can fuse the wire up to the rating of the wire. The power wire fuse is meant to protect the wire and in many cases the vehicle, but not the components.
Yes, you should be fine with a 200 amp fuse on a 1/0 gauge wire for what you described, but you can safely go to a 300 - 350 amp fuse on a 1/0 gauge wire.
