I need to power up a radio with a fault. Can it be wired straight onto a car battery so I can power it up to fix the fault, if it can be done whats the best way?

Sure, just wire the yellow wire to the positive. If you are trying to wire it up directly to a battery that is say sitting on a test bench or what ever than in addition to the yellow wire also hook up the red wire to the positive and the black wire to the negative on the battery.

... and if you want to be safe, put a 15A fuse in line at the battery.
