How exactly are the alternators grounded?

What I need to know is if there is actually a wire running off the alternator to the chassis or if the alternator casing itself is its ground? Im asking this because I was thinking of running a ground cable for the alternator if its even worth it?

The ideal place to ground your battery is the alternator case. Most all cars come factory with the battery grounded to the engine somewhere (along with the body and/or frame). This is because the alternator case is 'absolute ground'.

If you are upgrading your Big3, then i'd suggest grounding the battery straight to the alternator case, if possible, as well as the body and/or frame of the vehicle.

usually there is no factory ground coming off the alternator casing...the alternator is bolted to the block which is in turn grounded to the chassis and battery
