ok i am putting together my new system and am in a little bit of a bind. i am doing an all alpine system and am debating on one type x 12 or two type r 12s.  i already have my w505 on order along with type x components, a pdx1.1000, inprint tech for w505 and some other add ons, and still debating if i should put rear speaks in my car (1991 hatchback civic, rear seats are coming out also)  so am yet to order highs amp.  wither doing a 2.150 or a 4.150.  i am going for sq but still want nice spl at hand.

so to sum up

2 alpine type rs or one type x (12s)

rear speaks?

4 channel or two depends on above..

any input will be greatly appretiated.

two type r 1242d 40hms  or 122d-2ohms is 300 peak  if you have two

one type x is the same as two type rs so if you need to save space go with the x and if you want to save money go with the r

I'd take the Type X over the Two Type R's.

i have recently had a 10 type r and loved it got amazing bass out of it.  on 300 rms.  love my bass but i love my sq also.   and space is not an issue.  i have removed the rear seat of my hatchback civic to make a custom fiberglass enclosure amprack and all.  so no problem with space.

Well, I hope some of the experienced guys on here can confirm this comment.

As far as I know, while the type x is supposedly an amazing sub it is incredibly finiky. It requires a perfect box, the perfect power (lots and lots) and perfect conditions.  We have people come in every once and a while with a type x and they sound really muddy and disappointing.  The two type r's will be tiighter and more forgiving of their surroundings.  Also would not need to power them as heavily saving cost on amp as well as draw and strain on your electrical system.

Good luck with your project.

That's true with these subs I have 2 type r and they do require a perfect box. I built one it sounded low bass didn't hit high and the subs didn't perform right.     I put them in a sealed box the sound was better but these subs perform better in vented always. The cubic feet must be perfect I didn't stuff my box or nothing but these subs when wired right will put a strain on your electrical spec wise two type r's are equal to one type x if you have a car that can support what they demand then by all means do it. But like the previous post said one inperfection and back to square one.

I got a type x SWX-1243D (12") running off of a PDX-1.1000... 0AWG from battery all the way through to the amp, about 12 feet in length...

Voltmeter at the sub records a drop of .3v on the heaviest hits.    SPL of my system is 119, which I'm a little dissapointed with, but its still an impressive system, and SQ wise, the type x is more precise than the type r especially when it comes to big frequency jumps, it sounds alot tighter moving from punchy hits every second beat to a deep boom on the fourth beat (common in rap songs)

But ill be honest, the type x is definately overpriced, look around before you decide, but if its the type x you want, then definately get it, you wont be dissapointed, I wasnt!

P.S. also, it definately craves more juice than my one PDX-1.1000 gives, I would look at maybe a 1.1200 JL amp or even up to a 1500 if you find a stable amp. Good Luck!

Further to my last post, i forgot to add, I have the sub in a sealed 1.6ft^3 (its about 1.78ft^3 without the woofer in there)

The sub-bass will be louder in a ported box of course, but i like sharp tones, as I explained the type x i got does perfectly.

For my application, this sub works perfectly!

i am a all out alpine guy that is the only product i use.  have since i was 16.  so they will be alpines what ever way i go for subs.  and i am also a sealed enclosure guy to.  i listen to 90 metal and rock.  rarely anything else.

but what throws me off is when i had my type r is i ran it with 350 rms and i was hitting 137.  119 from a type x and a pdx 1000 seems off.

True I'm a sealed box person too I don't like the way ports look like in the setup other subs like the type s or e you can get good bass in asealed box I guess with the r and x you can't get away with it a ported box is the way to go but if it sounds good to you go for it.
