looking for some subs that will give me a high spl. right now im running 4 alpine type-r's on 2 jl audio 1000/1's. was going to upgrade to two mtx te1501d amps, was entertaining the thought of getting sum new subs but not sure which. just wanted to see what different subs people have dealt with.

either new subs or i was going to run the te1501d on my type-r's, they push 1500 watts at 1 ohm, my cousin has that setup with the type-r's and those amps.

Digital Designs and the proper custom slot port box will deliver the results that  you are looking for.

no offense but i wouldnt consider that MTX amp an upgrade from the JL. In terms of sound quality. Remember that doubling your watts can only gain you 3dbs. A properly built box can gain you as much as 10 dbs. Some subs i would reccomend is Fi audio, TC Sounds/Audiopulse, Digital Designs, RE Audio, Orion.

MTX does NOT make an "upgrade" for the JL1000/1.

I think the JL1000/1 can put something like 1600 watts into a nominal 4-ohm, reactive load.

What enclosure are the Type-R's in? I mean, you've got 4 of some of the best bang for the buck subs.

I bet if you'd build a nice ported box tuned to about 35Hz, it would blow your mind.

WAY cheaper than new subs, or amps!

To his question...please do not answer sealed.

There are people doing 150's with single Type R's.

Four of them should get quite loud

JL 1000/1 amps are fully regulated.  1000 watts at 1.5 - 4 ohms.  whatever you hook up, you're gonna get 1000 watts.

Right right sure sure.

I saw a test bench result a few years ago that pegged the amp at something like 1600 watts - but go figure I can't find it now.

Regardless - replacing a JL1000/1 with anything MTX makes is - uhh - silly.

It is fully regulated but it could be fully regulated putting out 1600w at 1.5-4 ohms. I totally agree with sedate about mtx being even considered an upgrade. If you want to upgrade then look into some of Robert Zeffs amp aka Arc Audio and Zapco. Also Audison, Alpine, Eclipse, and McIntosh.

Ok to answer some questions.

the only reason i was going to switch to the mtx amps is because my cousin has them pushing 750 watts to each type-r and they are balls out loud.

I also tried a little experiment and put two type-r's in a 4.5 cubic ft enclosure ported at 35hz, 1 type-r to each jl amp, played for a bit until i turned the gain up too much on 1 amp.

but right now the 4 type-r's are in a box that has about 3 to 3.5 cubic feet each chamber for each 2 subs, ported at 35hz. I want to go louder though. the only thing is the box wasn't built to spec for my car the box was built for a Lexus ls400 with four 1200 watt pioneer subs.

but to aznboi3644 thats crazy hitting 150 with a single type-r.

i was thinking about 2 w7's but they are way overpriced as you said. any subs out there that are compared to the w7?

me personally would run the w7, i'll pay the extra money for the quality. you could always run 2 kicker L7 or 1 jl 13w7

I don't want to start a "you're wrong, I'm right" thread but how can you put the Alpine and Eclipse amps in the same category as McIntosh.  I think that's a hangin' offense in some countries. lol.

I would agree that the Zapco, Audison, and McIntosh would be upgrades, but by very little.  In the sense of unregulated amplifiers MTX can provide more power, but I'm not sure the above model would do it.  And in the case of SPL, who cares what it sounds like, the idea is mind-numbing bass. lol

I never said they were in the same class. I just consider them an upgrade.

yes that was the point of me getting mtx amps because they push more watts. I would have to say that out of the amps i've dealt with JL audio is one of the best but the only downfall is they only push 1000 watts period.
