i bought the amp the other day and got it in today. well i hooked it up and it played fine for about an hour but then went into protection mode a couple times and then the third time it went completly off. i have went out to my car twice and when i turn the car on it comes on for about a sec and then goes right back off. not even in protect just off. what could be the problem?

What type of fuse do you have on your power wire at the battery?   Not the amperage of it,  AGU ANL  Maxi-Fuse?   A volt meter is a very useful tool, if there is a Harbor Freight store near you, they have a digital meter for 3 dollars.  It would make it much easier to troubleshoot your system with one.

Replace the AGU fuse.  Find a Buss brand fuse, do not use a pretty gold one.   I know it does not look blown, just make me happy and replace it.

I can tell by your screenname that you are probably playing that amp a little hard.  An AGU fuse is not the best engineered fuse out there.  They have a problem with heat dissapation.  The solder melts off of the fuse element.  The fuses sometimes melt and do not make a good connection anymore.  When this happens they display the exact symptoms you are experiencing.  The Gold fuses are by far much worse than the silver ones.  A Buss brand fuse is just a better built fuse and has less problems than the others.  They do still have the problem, just not as bad.

If you had a volt meter you could use it to figure out if you had a power distribution problem or a problem with your amp.

That is up to you, just make note every time you have a problem with an AGU fuse, and you will have to make that call. I just put a system back in my car and I am using a Mini-ANL type distribution block. I really like it. As long as you are not having trouble with the AGUs, oh wait you are having trouble.
