Subject: punch 800a to a infinity 1052w

The other day i got the punch 800a from a buddy, didnt know anything about it so just took it and figured would find out later. I guess its 800 watts but i cant find anything online saying that to be true or not. I also got the infinity reference 1052w really cheap from best buy so i figured i would go head and hook up some sort of system with the two since got them both cheap and before i go back to school. We already ran all the wires and everything is ready to be plugged in. But given its a punch 800a and infinity reference 1052w can somone give me some sort of assurance on how to put all the wires into this particular setup? As in what ohm and load they need for both to perform properly. Currently the sub is wired inside the box with option two on the link below. But that was with a different amp. I am not sure of anything about this punch 800a and the load its stable at and such. Do i have it right with option two still or do i need to change it up do to the different amp? https://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp~Q~1~I~22 subwoofer specs: https://infinitysystems.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=REF1052W&cat=REF&ser=REF&Language=ENG&Country=US&Region=USA Thanks alot guys just trying to get my wiring right before i blow something up

Is your amplifier an 800a2 or 800a4? ------------- Support the12volt.com

I had the same question too, but it doesn't really matter which amp he has. They are both capable of 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm mono. The only solutions he has is to run the amp stereo to each coil, or run the coils in series and bridge it off of 2 channels of the amp. If you do happen to have the A4, you can not bridge one coil to the left channels and the other coil to the right channels. The important part was the CAN NOT BRIDGE.

Yes, your best use of that amplifier and sub is to connect one VC to say the rear left channel and the other voice coil to the rear right channel, with the filter set to LP and ~100Hz. Use the front channels for your main speakers, perhaps, with filter set to HP and ~100Hz. ------------- Support the12volt.com

https://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e167/cory21/sub.jpg Thats what ive come up with on how to wire it, atleast from everything ive looked up online and come to understand and all. I dont feel as though its right but thats the exact way everything is setup, meaning thats what the amp looks like front and back and the headunit rca cables are run as well as the 'system remote control' wire which was run to the 'rem' piece of metal on the amp. So can anyone tell if im right or wrong or how to set it work?

Assuming you've chosen the correct output terminals for bridging (I don't remember if those are the right ones) then yes, your diagram will work. Be sure to fuse the power wire connecting the amp to the battery at whatever is appropriate for the guage of wire you use (see the "Power and Ground" link in the left column.) BTW, what is the "rem piece of metal" you refer to? ------------- Support the12volt.com

but the metal piece is where the red wire runs into and just hooks around it. Its just a piece of copper with a hole in it labeled REM.

Yes, that's where the remote turn on adapter plugs in. ------------- Support the12volt.com

So the REM is definitly the remote starter plug in. The B+ is definitly from the battery. The two rca plugs from the back of the HU clearly go into the other side of the amp. So all that is left is the + and - from the sub box which i currently have in the left rear positive and left rear negative. And the GND assuming thats the ground? So i have that to the car metal. Unfortunately this setup is not working. Unless the sub itself is not correct?

Does the amp turn on? Did you try connecting the sub to only one channel? ------------- Support the12volt.com

No the led doesnt turn on even though ive been trying to get the power wires right. but ive just been trying everything regardless thinking maybe the light died. Inline fuse in the battery bad even though looks fine and never been used? What do you mean channel? I plugged the sub into the amp in the LR+ and the LR- also did the LR+ and the RR-. I have a wire to the positive on one side of the sub and a wire to the negative on the other side of the sub, and than another wire connecting the remaining positive and negative on opposite sides. Also tried removing the connecting wire and just have it go positive on one side of the sub and negative on the other side.... Unfortunately non of that seems to matter since the led light and the amp isnt on.

Yea, sounds like a dead amp. If you want to be sure, go to a local car audio shop and ask them to test it for you (might cost a couple bucks.) Never just randomly hook up wires if you don't know what you're doing. You could end up picking molten plastic out of your face. :) ------------- Support the12volt.com

Have you used a volt meter to determine if the amp is getting power, remote and ground?

ok so we have proven thaqt everything works.. but the problem comes when we get the amp to stay on just by connecting it with the B+ power wire to the battery but than it would never turn of because its always connected to the battery. When we connect the system control from the head unit to the REM like were supoosed to nothing happens at all and the amp doesnt turn on. So what do we have to do for the REM wire coming from the head unit to the amp to get power along the way or whatever it needs so that the amp turns on when the car turns on?

Ah, I had assumed you had checked things like that. Silly me. What is your head unit? Have you measured the voltage on the remote turn-on wire? Are you sure you used the correct wire from the HU? Try turning on the radio and see if the amp turns on... ------------- Support the12volt.com

i used the only wire other than the amp ground, which i ground, and the dimmer wire. Turns out the only wire other after all the speakers and ipod stuff are them two and a blue and white wire labeled 'system remote control'. So i figured for sure thats go to be the one considering its the last one and its labeled. My head unit is a pioneer premier deh-780mp. You mean measure the remote turn on wire coming right out the head unit?

Yes, disconnect the remote wire from your amp, connect one lead of a DC volt meter to it and the other to ground, turn on the head unit. How many volts do you read? ------------- Support the12volt.com

did the trick... cheack the levels and got about and 11 with the wire right out the head unit but than makeing the connection and the tip right before plugs into the amp got no reading, so somehow a brand new wire was shot because works good now. thanks
