I just picked up a grand cherokee yesterday with the 6 speakers and the amp under the rear seat. I installed new speakers today (pioneer 3 ways in the back and LA 6x9 in the door), but I get no High's from the fronts. I am guessing that either the headunit or the amp is crossing over, so it practically makes my fronts just midbass speakers. Does anyone know of a way to get full range to my fronts? I was really hoping to not put a new HU in as I am going to keep this system low key.
I don't know if anybody still makes Bi-ampable 6x9s. I haven't seen any in many years. If someone knows of some we can buy today, please let him know. If someone tells you of some, this is what will need to happen. You will need to get the wires that go to the dash speaker, and run them into the door. The Bi-ampable speaker will have 2 connections for the 6x9, and 2 connections for the mid/tweeter pod. Connect the appropriate wires to the terminals. Can you take a picture of the terminals of the LA 6x9s?
they are nothing special, just basic Lighning audio 6x9 made by fosgate.
I was hoping to do this without upgrading. At somepoint in the near future I was going to go with an aftermarket HU, but this was just a stopgap. I have a 4 channel amp lying around, maybee I will see about shoving it under the seat and using it for the time being. I just wonder if the X-over is in the amp or the wiring?
