I have had my system in my Jeep for over a year without any problems. Yesterday I am driving home from work listening to Gin Blossoms (turned down low) and all of a sudden my sub starts hitting really hard like I was listening to rap, I was getting a back massage while it was hitting. It went a way 15 seconds later and didn't come back the rest of the day while doing erands. Today I start the Jeep and as soon as the reciever turns on the bass starts kicking really hard without any music. Obviously this is some type of feedback. My guess is a bad ground. I can't check right now until it is done raining so I thought I would see if you guys have any ideas. Alpine reciever, with MTX amp to power Rockford Fosgate sub. Turn the system back on and grab the RCA cable that is plugged into the MTX amp. Wiggle them, if it makes any kind of noise that changes with the moving of the RCA cable, you have a broken ground connection at the base of the RCA jack, you will not be able to see the broken connection. Let me know what model amp you have and I can assist you in repairing it.

Thanks for the reply. I went out and turned on the radio but I did not get any feedback this time. The sub and all the speakers played normally. I wiggled the RCA cable trying to get it to do something, but nothing happened. Now I am perplexed. What would make it do it sometimes, but not others???

If it did not make any noise when you wiggled the cables, this is probably not your problem. Next time it makes the noise, remove the RCA cables from the amp. If it still makes the noise, you have a possible problem with the amp. If the noise quits when you unplug the cable, It is coming from your radio. Also try turning the gain and crossover knobs on the amp, they are known to get dirty and cause noise problems. Let us know what you figure out the next time it makes noise.
