I have a 1999 Dodge Durango with 4 speakers and I was wondering if I install the Kenwood KDC-MP238 to replace my Alpine CDA-7837 would I have to mess with the wires? Or is it just plug and play?

Not plug and play but pretty much the next best thing!

1. All you have to do is remove the radio,( should be 2 10mm bolts if i remember right) unplug the harness from the car,(don't forget to unplug the antenna from the radio)

2. seperate the alpine harness from the vehicle harness!

3. connect the kenwood harness to the vehicle harness.(the wires are color coded)

4. remove the metal cage from the kit that the alpine slid into and lock the kenwood cage in it's place!

5. slide the kenwood in the cage...reconnect the harness to the vehicle...then to the radio(as well as antenna).

6. put the kit back in the car..put the bolts back in...put the dash together and pow!  done!

The only wire that does not go to the harness is the ground(black) wire, but there should be a factory ground to hook into....no prob!  you should be able to do this without taking apart the dash though i explained it as if you did have to take the dash apart!

what is the amplifier for if it's not for a sub.  I'm thinking that the amp is powering your front speakers if you're not getting any sound out of them.   did you have to disconnect a set of RCA's when you removed the alpine deck, and was there a wire that connected to the blue/white wire on the alpine deck as well?

Could be that you did not connect the amp and now of course your fronts won't work!

I think the previous owner used it for a subwoofer and yes there were rca cables connected to the alpine and a blue/white wire was also connected.

What should i do?

when you say it's connected, you mean that you did hook up the RCA's, hooked the blue/white wire to the same wire that the alpine blue/white was connected too, and you still get no sound.!?

here's what you can try.

get yourself a AA battery and unplug the kenwood speaker wires (green, white, gray, purple...all pairs) from the vehicle harness, leaving some slack on the vehicle harness and leaving it plugged in to the car.  DO NOT REMOVE THE POWER LEADS(RED AND YELLOW)  and just leave them hanging, they will be live and can ground out.

hook your positive terminal from the AA batt. to the solid wire and the negative terminal to the same color wire with the black stripe.  you will get a popping sound from whatever speaker your testing.  If you get nothing then your speaker leads are not going directly to the speaker, or there is no speaker.  try this for all four speakers and see what you get...if you get a pop on all four speakers then your speakers are good and something is wrong with your deck....

Now...just curious....the blue/white wire is also hooked up to the blue/white on the vehicle harness right?  if not hook it up first before you try what i explained.

Also...this may sound kind of stupid....but also make sure your Front and Rear fade are balanced properly!  you'd be surprised!

I finally got them to work the problem was that there was 2 pairs of RCA cables and one of them were carrying the sound of the front speakers. The RCA cable was hidding near the vents. Thanks for all your help joch1314 before finding the second pair of RCA cables I did the thing you mentioned using the AA batteries and it worked which made me check if there was a RCA cable I could of missed.

THANK YOU!
