I have a customer with a unique request. This customer owns a convertible and wants to be able to leave their top down, walk away, and not worry about someone making off with the face plate for their receiver. To make a long story short, I am looking for an aftermarket 1.5 DIN CD receiver that does NOT offer a detachable face. I doesn't have to be a new model and it just has to play CDs. I was thinking along the lines of the Alpine CDA-7897 which has a stealth flip out face. It's also discontinued. Any suggestions?

It is discontinued because of mechanical problems with the face retracting and opening. Even if you can find one I would steer clear of those units.

It wasn't a 1.5 din anyway its a 1 din with an over sized face. Some 1.5 marine radios by pyle o crap faces don't detach.

i guess i've been lucky because i've never had problems with them yet (this unit and its bio-lite sibling). since installing them new years ago.

i know but with an off-center metra kit, you can't tell the difference.

I'd hate to install anything pyle in a customer's vehicle because I know they'll be back in a week anyway. also, I don't know how excited anyone would be about that nice, bright white marine facia staring back at them. At least it'll be water resistant (selling point) Ha!

Knock on wood, I have two CDA-7898's both are 5 years old and no problems. Both are abused daily.posted_image
