stuck between focal k2 or diamond audio h

Like the title says, I do not know which ones to get.

I currently have a set of 6.5" ALpine Type R components running 70W RMS. I love the midbass of the speakers, don't really like the tweeters and I don't like the clarity of them. So I want to upgrade to something better.

My friend just purchased the Diamond Audio hex speakers that I'm looking at. They sound great, but might be a little too bright and not have the midbass I'm looking for, but that could just be his setup or anything. At high volumes they were crystal clear which I loved. On my deck I have a 16 band eq so I can tweak things fairly well.

I have never heard the K2s so I don't know what they sound like or how they compare. I was looking at the 165 KR2 since then I could run the speakers at 90 W @ 2 ohms, but those speakers are pretty hard ro find.



Also are the K2s worth the extra $100 over the diamonds?

If you have any other suggestions for components that are on the same level on these ones please ket me know.

Well if you think the diamonds are too bright then your probably not gonna like the Focals. Did your friend have the titanium tweeters of the soft silk tweeters?

I believe he bought the titanium.
He also didn't change the crossover settings yet since he just installed them.

So since you dont like the brightness of the titanium tweeter(which have a more brighter sound than soft silk tweeters) you should go with the soft silk tweeter. Im sure you would be happy with that. I personally like soft silk tweeters for this very reason. good choice of speakers by the way.

Focal speakers have always sounded harsh to me.  However some of my favorite component speakers on the market are made by Diamond Audio.  They have some of the best midbass performance, and a very smooth top end.  Every set I've installed for customers I've gone through the tone controls of the head unit (some with quite a bit of equalization available) and have always gone back to flat.  The speakers have always sounded best that way.  If your friends speakers lacked midbass, then I'd suspect there is a problem somewhere in the install.   Tell him to make sure he doesn't have a high pass crossover turned on too high in either the head unit or on the amplifier.  Also note that they are designed for an infinite baffel installation so if your friend is using them in any kind of small enclosure it will likely limit the low frequency extention of the speakers.

The KR2s are the 2 ohm version of the KRs.

From this forum and some other forums, it seems that people are pretty split between focal and diamond. I think if I bought diamond I would buy it online along with a PDX 2.150 amp, but if I bought focal I would be just those speakers (no amp) from a dealer.

I strongly recommend purchasing the Diamond speakers from a dealer as well.  They are very specific on the first page of their website that they don't have any authorized online dealers and will not provide any support to people who purchase them unauthorized.
